Sorting bulk material, inspecting every piece of it and processing them to the next step of production – all this using a single compact machine? Yes, this is possible with robofeeder, a combination of a robot, a vibrating feeder, and a perfectly adapted image processing system.


Workpieces as bulk material are filled into a container. The feeder conveys and turns them by means of vibrations. A camera system continuously determines the position and direction or each piece and transfers this data to the robot. The robot then selectively picks single workpieces that lay in the correct position. In addition, workpieces can be checked for defects before they will be further processed.


So far such complex handling and inspection processes have been automated, if at all, only for very large numbers of pieces to be processed – an according system has required too high investment costs and proved highly inflexible in the end. By contrast, robofeeder is a system that can be profitably employed not only in a mass production, but also in small businesses as well due to its low investment costs. A further innovation is the unmatched flexibility of robofeeder. It can be quickly adapted to changes in production and easily modified to alternative workpieces. It is as simple as that!

Adapting to new products

In case workpieces slightly change or entirely new pieces have to be processed, it is no longer necessary to retrofit all the sorting equipment. robofeeder is capable of “learning” fast – only a few simple steps are necessary to modify it to product variants or new pieces.

Inspection of pieces

All workpieces that are processed by robofeeder can also be checked by its camera system. Only 100% good pieces will be forwarded. Reject pieces will be automatically sorted out and collected in a separate container.


With robofeeder, feeds that are blocked by reject pieces belong to the past.


Workpieces can be inserted as a bulk material. Following pieces can be processed:

  • length: 1 mm to 70 mm
  • weight: 1 g to 50 g

Machine dimensions

robofeeder can be provided in various sizes. They range from

  • S size (LxWxH: 400x700x800 mm) for small pieces to
  • L size (LxWxH: 1000x1500x2000 mm) for large pieces.
