Solder joint positioning and inspection

For 20 years pi4 has been supplying inspection systems for all manufacturing steps in electrical engineering:

  • solder joint inspection of selective soldering points
  • workerbot for controlling correct placement (individual modules, especially for the automotive industry), print quality (especially for FPC manufacturing), correct assembly of mechatronic modules, components (control of connecting contacts), etc.
  • Lasermarker

Solder joint inspection is a question of experience

Each solder joint has its own character, and every soldering method demands for an adequate inspection strategy. As an OEM vendor, pi4 has supplied many renowned manufacturers of selective soldering facilities with inspection systems. Due to a close cooperation with the manufactures, we can always ensure that an optimum inspection strategy is used in every particular case. This way pi4 also supplies optimized inspection software for a variety of soldering methods, such as:

  • soldering iron
  • laser
  • light
  • flame
  • induction

Mechatronic modules always constitute highly individual solutions, which in turn demand for perfectly adapted inspection strategies. Inspection modules or automatic testers by pi4 check the defined characteristics quickly and precisely and so allow detecting errors in no time as well as amending them without entailing any further costs.

Product characteristics:

  • adjustable inspection areas that can be programmed according to the customer’s needs
  • SMEMA interface
  • detection of even the smallest product flaws
  • short inspection times
  • optional marking
  • data storage and conveyance
  • simple and ergonomic handling

During or at the end of the process, the system controls the position of the adhesive beading in relation to the product as well as its height and width. This information can be transferred to the dispensing system and so facilitate process optimisation. That helps to avoid errors and to stabilise the dispensing process.

Measurements:

  • height
  • width
  • position on the product
  • continuity

Control calculations:

  • cross section
  • contour
  • volume of the applied quantity
